Boy Straps Himself Under British Courier’s Van, In Hope Of Escaping To Britain
It was another moment filled with sympathy, when a British courier narrated a story of how he found a 15-year-old boy who strapped himself under his car.
According to the driver, he has been a courier for over 12 years. And recently, he was transporting some items to Paris, when he started hearing bangs from behind the van. Initially, he assumed it was nothing serious, but soon he heard another very loud bang which made him decide to check the back of the van, once he stops at a fuel station.
On getting to the fuel station, the man stated that he found the boy at the back of his van, shivering and scared, and the boy who identified himself as Saudi, tried to run away. But when he told Saudi he is not going to do anything, the boy stayed, and he was able to question him.
The driver added that when he asked of his age, Saudi claims to be 18 years of age. However, the driver claims he doubts the boy is 18 years of age. Rather, he thinks the boy should be about 15 years.
About 25 miles later the banging happened again but it was so loud I thought somebody was in the back of the van. I s*** myself. I heard bang, bang, bang, like someone was smashing in the back near my head. I absolutely floored it at 90mph and pulled in at the next petrol station.
I got out and saw this kid standing near the back door – he was shivering and scared. ‘I couldn’t believe it. He went to run off but I said “I’m not going to do anything”. He was absolutely in shock. He was shaking.
He told me the French police had already beaten him up, there is quite a lot of violence in Calais. I could smell smoke on him, then he said he’d been lighting fires every night because he’d been sleeping rough in the woods.
He didn’t know where he was but said he’d crossed over at Libya, where he lost his passport. At that point he told me both his parents were dead. I was just so shocked. What can you say to that? He said his country is finished after the civil war so he had to leave.
