Years after Bilyaminu Bello was killed by his wife, Maryam Sanda, the wife who has been in holding, has now been sentenced to death. According to information gathered, when the lady was sentenced today, she broke into tears, and tried to escape. However, before she could, the woman was caught and ordered back to the dock.

According to Justice Yusuf Halliru who sentenced Maryam to death, it has been proven beyond doubt that Maryam killed the late Bilyaminu Bello in cold blood. And according to the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the wife would be put to death.

It was also reported that during the trial, Maryam was heard talking to her God, saying she prayed and fasted, but unfortunately she was still sentenced to death. And while a woman who was in sympathy tried to approach Maryam, the woman was ordered out of the courtroom.

However, Maryam still has the right to appeal. But according to the judge, the lady shall be held in holding, pending the time she exhausts all her options. And after all her options have been exhausted, the lady would be put to death.

Earlier, the judge stood down the matter for five minutes following the drama that ensued after the conviction was passed. According to reports, Sanda fled the dock immediately the judge convicted her. However, court officials and prisons officials dragged her back into the dock.

The judge was forced to rise after several women started wailing in the court room. One of them who made attempt to approach Maryam was ordered to be taken away by the judge.

Justice Yusuf Halliru rose for 5 minutes to return for sentencing. He held that there was circumstantial evidence coupled with Sanda’s testimony and statement to the police. The judge ordered that she should be remanded in Suleja prison till she exhausts her right of appeal.
